Ahhh how gimmicks draw in the viewers…

Recently movies have been living off the idea of “hey let’s do something cool just to get more money” ala the Matrix saga and now Spy Kids 3D: Game Over. I have to admit, I was sucked in by the 3D gimmick. For all those readers out there that have no idea what the movie is about, well, it’s just a movie about main character Juni (Daryl Sabara) saving his sister Carmen (Alexa Vega ) while she’s inside some game made by the ToyMaker (Sylvester Stallone). The game is made to enslave the minds of children (sounds very much like a watered down version of the Matrix). With this game, players load themselves into the game where everything is “real”. And the only way to die is getting their life meter down to 0. This is where they are exited from the game.

This is exactly the whole story. Nothing to wow the audience. Sure it’s a kids movie, but back in my day I had better experiences with movies that were aimed at the younger audience. Remember the Sandlot Kids? Fantastic stuff.

Crap I forgot to talk about the 3D-ness about the movie, mainly because it’s a cheap way of reeling in the suckers (like me lol). The movie 90% of the time requires you to wear the 3D glasses, with 3D tricks such as “things thrown onto you” getting repetitive and boring. Honestly after 10 minutes of the movie, I just wanted to run and scream out of there.

The glasses are not compulsory. Just be prepared that if you take them off during sections that are presented in 3D, you’ll be disoriented with the red and blue mess on screen. And if you’re psycho enough to wear the specs throughout the duration of the movie, you will still see things in blue and red, even when you TAKE THE 3D SPECS OFF (and I’m talking about when you walk out of the movie). lol

I haven’t seen the other two movies, but in my opinion this movie really sucks. But it’s perfect for little kids though, which was probably the main target audience anyway.

6/10

Watch it because: FRODO is in there!!
